Youth Green Paper: Connexions chief says careers guidance willrequire change

1 min read

Gordon McKenzie, divisional manager for Connexions at the Department for Education and Skills, made the statement at the Integrated Information, Advice and Guidance conference in London last week. His view backs up the conclusions of the Government's review of careers education and guidance, End to End.

The report will inform the much-delayed youth green paper, now expected in early March, and will be published alongside that policy document.

Leaked findings of the review obtained by Young People Now include the judgment that Connexions lacks the capacity to deliver both targeted support and universal careers education and guidance to young people.

The best way to improve the service, said the review team, is to increase the coherence, quality and relevance of careers education and guidance in schools, colleges and work-based learning.
