Calls for clarity on disability spending

1 min read Health Social Care
Campaigners are urging every primary care trust (PCT) in England to clarify how much they are spending on services for disabled children.

The Every Disabled Child Matters campaign is also urging MPs to sign up to an early day motion calling on the government to publicise the amount of money PCTs are using to support short breaks, palliative care, community equipment and wheelchair services for disabled children.

PCTs were given an extra £3.8bn of funding this financial year, but they are not obliged to spend a particular amount on disabled children.

Every Disabled Child Matters campaign manager Steve Broach said: "We want PCTs to commit to a figure and sign our charter. We sent letters out on 11 March and we've had a varied response: some have given us a high level of commitment, some have treated it as a formal Freedom of Information request - which it wasn't - and some have ignored us."
