PCT spend on short breaks to be set out

1 min read Health
The government is to confirm how much primary care trusts (PCTs) will spend on short break services for disabled children in the child health strategy.

Although funding for the services was announced in last year's Aiming High for Disabled Children strategy, there has been widespread confusion about how much PCTs will put into expanding short break provision.

In contrast, the amount available from the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) to allow local authorities to bankroll these services was announced months ago.

Now the government has promised to set out the level of short break funding included in PCT baseline allocations up to 2010/11 in its child health strategy, which will be published in September.

The commitment was made in the Aiming High for Disabled Children: Short Breaks Implementation Guidance, published by the DCSF and the Department of Health.
