Primary care trusts likely to reveal spending on children

1 min read Health
Primary care trusts (PCTs) could be required to reveal how much they spend on children's services, children's minister Beverley Hughes has said.

Hughes outlined the plan at the Association of Directors of Children's Services' annual conference in Manchester last week. She said: "I'm optimistic that PCTs will shortly have to publish how much money they are spending on children and young people's services. That's really important."

Steve Broach, campaign manager at Every Disabled Child Matters, said the proposal was likely to be in the forthcoming child health strategy, due to be released in the autumn (CYP Now, 7-13 May). However, he said Hughes' proposal did not go far enough to help disabled children in England. "We need to know what it means for specific priority groups," he said.
