What got you into youth work? I was a nursery nurse, but one night I had a run-in with two young people who were threatening to throw a brick through my window. I went out and talked to them, sat on the wall with them in the rain for three hours and realised there wasn't much for them to do. I remembered back to when I was 15 and felt that no-one wanted to listen to what I had to say. So it was down to that really.

What do you like most about your job? The young people - they make me feel young. I like seeing them achieving something and seeing their reactions when someone says yes when all they usually hear is no. I like seeing them coming in buzzing from what they've managed to do.
