Back Page: And this is what I do

1 min read

How did you get into this type of work? As an unemployed youth I was "youth worked" and started volunteering. I did my youth work qualification and worked during the miners' strike in an inspirational team. I moved to Liverpool in 2000 because this job focused on two issues I was passionate about - ICT and participation.

Who do you work with? We serve two predominantly White working-class communities in south Liverpool. Ages range from 14 to 19, with an even gender split.

What do you enjoy about your work? Having a team that shares a vision. Seeing staff, volunteers and young people rise to the challenges of the work and grow in self-belief, skills and aspiration. Creating space for work that embraces association, informality, challenge and accountability.
