How did you get into your role? When I was out on operations in the Gulf I received a phone call from the MoD telling me that this was to be my next role. But I am still a regular officer. I expect to go back into the mainstream air force again.

Why is your job important? Any organisation needs a figurehead who is helping to shape strategy and direction. I am also the vital link between the organisation and the RAF, MoD and the Government.

What are you working on at the moment? The biggest issue in our area is developing and sustaining our base of 10,000 volunteers. We are also developing a strategy for 2020 to enable change. We're looking at how all the change that is happening now, such as the Government's wider youth agenda, will affect the organisation.
