How many young people do you work with? We have about 25 cadets aged 16 to 18 and we take in about 12 new cadets each September. We also retain one cadet from each year to help with the next year's recruits.
What is the purpose of the cadets?
We hope to make young people aware of the police's role in society, develop their character and promote good citizenship. It is not a recruiting tool for the police, but some do go on to join the force.
How are the cadets selected? We get about 40 applications a year and all the cadets are security screened for good character and so on because of the nature of the work. This is not a diversionary or a crime-reduction scheme.
