Back Page: And this is what I do - Hannah Newth, project co-ordinator, Save the Children, Birmingham

What's a typical week for you? A typical week includes responding to social work referrals and meeting young people to explain the project. I organise weekly activities and support and supervise the 30 young befrienders on the scheme.

What kind of programmes do you run? Young asylum seekers suffer from isolation and boredom, so we run activities to help their mental health, such as biking and picnics. They learn cooking with their befrienders, play games and use the internet. We work with the Refugee Council's children's panel to help them with advocacy and provide information on benefits.

Why is your job important? Many of the young asylum seekers have suffered immense trauma and have lost their childhoods. They are one of the most marginalised and vulnerable groups in the country and have no families.
