BACK PAGE: And this is what I do - Lee McDaid, leaving carementoring co-ordinator, Lewisham Council

1 min read

Who is in your meetings? My project is based at the leaving care service in Lewisham, so I attend weekly meetings with the social workers, team managers and support workers. I also attend quarterly meetings with the other mentoring co-ordinators in London who are a part of The Prince's Trust Leaving Care Initiative.

What's a typical day? I usually spend mornings replying to emails, phone messages and post. I might spend afternoons facilitating a mentor's initial meeting with a young person. I will then spend the evening facilitating the mentor's group supervision session.

How did you get the job? I saw the advert, and thought: "Wow, that job's got my name on it!" It was in a borough I knew well, it was starting a project from scratch so there was a chance to be creative, I feel passionate about the concept and I love working with young people. I spent my teenage years in care so I have some empathy with the young people.
