Youth offending work in Staffordshire has been given the thumbs-up by inspectors in an "encouraging" report.

The HM inspectorate of Probation report, found that safeguarding aspects of the work were done well enough 74 per cent of the time and public protection aspects of work were done well enough 64 per cent of the time. Work to make each individual less likely to re-offend was done satisfactorily 75 per cent of the time.

Liz Calderbank, assistant chief inspector, said: "Overall, we consider this an encouraging set of findings. The senior management team had a clear understanding of what good practice looked like and showed themselves committed to improving the quality and consistency of their work with children and young people.
