Youth Work: My life - Sarah Jones 16, Liverpool

1 min read Youth Work
Before I started dragon boating I had never really set myself any goals in life and didn't have much self-belief. But now I train several times a week, which requires a lot of discipline but is very enjoyable and helps take my mind off any problems at home.

I competed in the Chief Constable's Challenge with the Broadgreen High School dragon boat team as part of the 50th anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards and I became a member of the Under 18 GB Dragon Boat squad in April.

It was a proud moment when I became the fastest and youngest dragon boater in the country but that is not the most important thing to me, it is a team effort and a team victory. If it wasn't for the club paddlers then I don't think I would be as good today.

Next week I am going to Sydney as part of the Great Britain Under 18 Dragon Boating team, I am really excited. - Do you know a child or young person with a story to tell? Call Nancy Rowntree on 020 8267 4918, email nancy.rowntree@haymarket.com.
