My Life: Luke Byrne, 18, Reading

1 min read Youth Work Participation
When I joined Reading Football Club three years ago, I had very low confidence and self-esteem.

I suffer with ADHD and mild learning needs, and I found it difficult to control my behaviour around people and be in a learning environment. Now I have five qualifications and my self-esteem and confidence has improved.

When I signed up to do the Sportiv8 course, I asked if I could start volunteering at some Kickz sessions and youth clubs. Various coaches and mentors from Reading FC Community Trust showed me the ropes and got me coaching and working in the community with young people.

I have done so much and learnt so much from all these lovely people and would struggle to find employment if it wasn't for their support.
