YOUTH SERVICE: Northamptonshire to reshuffle services after Ofsted criticism

1 min read

The proposals were highlighted by the council prior to this week's publication of an Ofsted report into their youth service, which criticised "unsatisfactory" provision on several levels.

These included leadership and management; participation by young people; provision for young women, lesbian, gay and bisexual young people and rural youth; and recording and monitoring of data. However, the council's provision for ethnic minority youth and disabled young people was applauded.

Councillor James Ashton, cabinet member responsible for youth work, said: "Youth work will be at the heart of the service, which will ensure clearer lines of responsibility, accountability and communications."

The reshuffle will see integration of the youth offending team, social care and health services. A county youth service manager will lead a senior management team, and the council is to recruit a director for the children and families service and a director for schools.
