YOUTH SERVICE: Liverpool prepares for Ofsted inspectors

Action has been taken following internal inspections of youth service provision for 11 geographical areas by the city council earlier this year.

The inspections had found that nine areas were "unsatisfactory" in their provision for young people and provided insufficient educational and diversionary activities for young women, disabled young people and ethnic minorities.

Councillor Paul Clein, cabinet member for education, said: "Ofsted is like getting a free consultancy report, but we are trying to put our house in order before they come. We changed the funding basis three years ago with the aim of improving the outreach service and activities, but the process is incomplete.
