What do they learn? As well as gaining filmmaking skills, parents and carers experience the benefits of sharing cultures, building community cohesion, working as a team and learning transferable skills.
In the Picture's Sheena Macrae says: "The film training has been really popular with Southwark's parents and carers. The films involved more than 214 Southwark residents, they came from 17 different ethnicities and spoke 14 languages. This is a real achievement for showcasing Southwark's multicultural community."
Anything else? More than 200 parents and carers, children and practitioners attended the Family Filmmakers of the Year 2010 Awards on 8 September, which screened some of the films made in the workshops. Further classes are taking place at children's centres in Southwark over the next few months, as commissioned by the borough's children's centres development team.
