How does it work? The programme is based around the story of a child and his grandmother, who explores mementos from her own childhood in Jamaica. The children are introduced to the characters, played by Playhouse members, and their responses shape the narrative.
What are the benefits? As well as being a lot of fun, the story allows children to learn about other cultures and generations. It also touches on themes from personal, social and health education, citizenship and the Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning programme. The props used provide a multi-sensory environment to stimulate children's imaginations. Most importantly, the workshops are an ideal arena for developing language skills and a good source of inspiration for children to improve their own literacy skills.
