CYP Now Show 2009: Workshops and debates - The hot topics

Visitors to the CYP Now Show 2009 will be able to attend a range of interactive workshops and panel discussions focusing on issues that affect the sector. Jo Stephenson talks to some of the speakers and discovers what's on offer.

If you want to get down to the nitty-gritty then look no further than the workshops at the Children & Young People Now Show 2009, which promise to tackle the hottest topics in the sector. The sessions comprise interactive workshops, panel debates and master classes covering five strands: health and wellbeing; play; children's centres and extended schools; leadership and collaboration; and positive activities.

Leadership is high on the agenda in the wake of the Baby P case, which raised questions about accountability and the role of children's services directors.

But the leadership and collaboration strand, which is being co-ordinated by the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) working closely with the National College for School Leadership, is looking at leadership at all levels. For example, the workshop on tomorrow's leaders will focus on middle management. "Leadership is not just required of people at the top," says CWDC head of communications Claire Chappell. "Everyone in an organisation has a role to play in leading change."
