Why? The funding is intended to support the children and young people who use the city's centres. It is also supposed to strengthen links between community groups and children's centres by encouraging partnership working.
How is the money being used? Funding is already being put to use in a variety of ways. The first six groups that applied were given their cheques last month. Some primary schools and toddler groups are using the money to purchase much-needed educational resources, children's furniture and safety equipment. A community association is buying radiator covers and other equipment to provide a safe play area for children. A group called Health Scented is using the cash to offer taster sessions in alternative therapy for parents and young children. And an organisation called The Bridge Project, which helps young mothers into employment, training and higher education, is holding an event to celebrate their achievements and its 10th anniversary.
