Sunderland City Council

1 min read Early Years
What did it do? Sunderland City Council has spent the summer on a "promoting attendance in the early years" roadshow, which visited family fun days across the city to help support young children and their parents as they make the move to nursery.

What did it involve? The events took place at community venues throughout Sunderland. They allowed parents to access advice on how best to introduce young children to nursery, while also offering information on pre-school learning, development and welfare.

Why did they do it? The council claims that many parents in Sunderland are anxious as their children begin nursery, wondering if they will enjoy themselves or whether they will make friends quickly. These events were designed to help put their minds at ease.

How does it work? As well as advice and support for parents, the council introduced its attendance mascot Spike (pictured above). Spike will be making an appearance at early years settings on the children's first day, ensuring that they see at least one familiar face.
