What did they do? Health visitors and midwives staged a series of events across Portsmouth to give parents more advice about breastfeeding and its benefits as part of National Breastfeeding Awareness Week.
What did the events involve? Health visitors set up an information stand in the Cascades shopping centre to give advice and a "celebration of breast feeding" event took place at Paulsgrove Children's Centre. There was also a breastfeeding picnic in Victoria Park, in the centre of the city. A spokeswoman for NHS Portsmouth says: "The locations were in the city centre and the children's centre to ensure we got the information to as many mums as we could."
What did it achieve? The events promoted the slogan "Portsmouth supports breastfeeding". Dawn Saunders, a public health consultant, says the slogan is important to help mums identify places where they can breastfeed and increase the social acceptance of breastfeeding.
"We want to make sure every mum in Portsmouth has the support she needs to breastfeed her baby for the first six months, and the information she needs to make an informed decision," she said.
