WORKPLACE: Who's in your meetings? - Michael Follett, strategic development officer for play, Bath and North East Somerset Council

1 min read
What exactly do you do? I have two main roles. The first is administrative, since I am responsible for £40,000 of grants for the voluntary sector.

Secondly, I'm an advocate for children's play. My job is to try and raise awareness of play at all levels, via parents or people making strategic decisions at the council.

Describe a typical day. On a typical day I'll have a visit to a school, do some training with some school supervisors regarding quality of playtimes, or training around play work values, or I might be organising our community play rangers project.

Who else do you work with? I mainly do development work - especially with the voluntary sector. I also work with our local Community Bus, a local under-fives play project, and the Children's Society. Two key local voluntary organisations are the Bath Area Play Project and Wansdyke Play Association.
