Describe a typical day. My role is extremely wide and covers working at a strategic level to promote play, ensuring it is kept on agendas across all relevant departments within the local authority, and working on a practical level with play and youth providers.
What other agencies, and who else within your organisation, do you work with? We work closely with the local education department, Children's Fund and London Play, as well as a number of voluntary organisations and projects in the borough.
How did you end up with this job? I studied playwork at Northumbria University, gaining a Dip/HE Playwork and a BA in playwork and social welfare. During my studies I worked part-time as a playworker for statutory and voluntary organisations. I then gained full-time employment with Newcastle City Council as a neighbourhood playworker.
