Workplace: Who's in your meetings? - Matthew Payne, consultancybusiness relationship manager, 4Children

What do you do? I manage the relationships we have with local authorities and also undertake paid-for consultancy work.

What was the highlight of the past week? We are about to launch a newproduct called Talkit 2010, and I managed to persuade a local authorityto adopt it as a pilot scheme.

That was very satisfying.

What is the most rewarding aspect of the job? A sense of success whenyou can scope a project, then successfully deliver it to the client.

What is the hardest aspect of the job? To be honest, it's thetravel.

I might be in Wolverhampton one day and Ipswich the next. Most of it'sby train; need I say more?

Why did you start working in children's services? I don't want to soundtrite, but I wanted to make a difference to children's lives; to have amoral purpose. After university, where I studied politics, I went towork in residential special schools; eventually I was managing them.Pete from Big Brother, who has Tourette's syndrome, was a pupil at oneof my schools.
