1 min read
What do you do? I work as part of the Youth Justice Board's placement team, managing the day-to-day placements. We get 450 calls a day from youth offending teams about young people who need placements and we have to ensure there is a safe placement for the young person entering the custodial system by the end of the day.

What was the highlight of the past week? Visiting the new mother andbaby unit that has opened at Rainsbrook Secure Training Centre.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? Meeting young people whohave been successfully placed.

What is the hardest aspect of your job? The hardest aspect is matchingthe beds available with the needs of young people coming in, andprioritising the young people.

What is the toughest decision you have had to take during yourcareer?

The biggest decision was when I took a job working shifts when I had ayoung family.

What other departments or organisations do you work with? I work withanyone involved with those young people in the system, youth offendingteams, secure units, social services, the Home Office. Everyoneincluding the young people as well.
