Workplace: Who's in your meetings? - Louise Gedge, childcare partnership manager, Department of Work and Pensions

1 min read
What exactly do you do? Childcare partnership managers were introduced to every Jobcentre Plus district in April 2003 and we work with childcare partnership employers, plus Early Years Development and Childcare Partnerships and Sure Start, to find childcare places for parents.

Describe a typical day. A typical day would be meeting with programme managers of new childcare centres and working to decide what support Jobcentre Plus is going to provide. Or it could be meeting with New Deal lone-parent advisers in job centres to find out the needs of job-seeking parents.

What other agencies, and who else within your organisation, do you work with? I work with Childminding Matters (a Norfolk childminding association), private nurseries and employers, especially those wishing to explore family friendly policies. Within Jobcentre Plus, I work closely with New Deal lone-parent advisers and vacancy service managers to try to increase the number of childcare work vacancies.
