Workplace: Who's in your meetings? - Jenny Spratt, head of early years and childcare service, Peterborough City Council

1 min read
What exactly do you do? I lead the early years and childcare team within the integrated education and childcare department at Peterborough City Council.

Describe a typical day. Some days I am in the office, meeting with other agencies in a partnership meeting. Otherwise, I might be in London representing local authority co-ordinators on the Early Childhood Forum or in a school moderating the foundation stage profile.

What other agencies, and who else within your organisation, do you work with? All partners within the Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership, which we have recently renamed the Sure Start Strategic Partnership. Also, organisations involved with the Local Strategic Partnership for children, young people and their families.

How did you end up with the job? I was head teacher of a nursery school, then came into the local authority on secondment to lead the early years and childcare agenda. After a year, I enjoyed the job so much that I was appointed on a permanent basis.
