Workplace: Who's in your meetings? - Jason Pegg, development worker for the Black Families Education Support Group

1 min read
What exactly do you do? We aim to promote racial equality in the education system by ensuring Black and minority ethnic families have access to information, advice and learning opportunities, and ensuring racial equality issues are on the local educational policy agenda.

My role includes providing advice and advocacy support, developing educational activities and delivering an anti-racist education programme in schools.

Describe a typical day? Yesterday I went to an appraisal panel meeting in the morning to answer questions relating to a funding application we are making for a regeneration grant. In the afternoon I had a meeting with a capacity building officer who is advising us on our future development.

Then I made phone calls to current clients to update them on the progress of their cases.

What other agencies, and who else within your organisation, do you work with? We work alongside other organisations within the local Black and minority ethnic voluntary sector. We work with local schools, particularly in relation to promoting anti-racist education in the curriculum. We also work with the local education authority, and are developing links with the local strategic partnership.
