Workplace: Who's in your meetings? - Carolyn Webber, manager, baby pod, St Nicholas Children's Nursery

1 min read
What exactly do you do? My full title is senior deputy manager at St Nicholas Children's Nursery in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire. We have three pods and I'm the manager of the baby pod, which caters for children aged six weeks to two years. I am also acting manager in the nursery when the manager is away. It is quite a full role!

Describe a typical day. Each day holds different challenges for each individual child. My day involves a lot of hands-on management, dealing with issues and running a successful team of 10 nursery nurses within the baby pod.

What other agencies, and who else within your organisation, do you work with? I work very closely with the manager and directors, with the nursery nurses and other deputy managers. We also work closely with the local early years development and childcare partnership and the National Day Nurseries Association.

How did you end up in this job? I have been involved with St Nicholas since its construction in 2000 and opening in 2001. I have actually been in the sector for 27 years. I was previously the manager of a small local pre-school and was delighted to be invited to join the management team at St Nicholas in 2000.
