Director of policy and development Viv McKee, Wylie's deputy for the past three years, is a strong candidate to succeed him. Former NYA deputy chief Anthony Lawton, now chief executive of Centrepoint, is thought to be another possible contender.
As broken on www.ypn magazine.com last month, Wylie has stated he plans to step down in "early summer". He said: "I still have a contribution to make to working with young people in the country."
Meanwhile, The NYA has appointed Heather Stevens, director of skills and industry at the Northern Ireland Department for Employment and Learning, as head of policy and Rotherham Council's principal youth officer Rod Norton as head of programmes.
