The board of The NYA has selected Fiona Blacke, currently regional director (learning, planning and performance) for the Learning and Skills Council in Yorkshire and the Humber, for the coveted post. She is a former chief executive of Connexions Tees Valley, as well as a trained youth worker.
Before moving to England five years ago she was deputy chief executive and director of youth issues at the Scottish Community Education Council.

Internal candidate Viv McKee, director of policy and development, is understood to have been among the four. Blacke said the interview process represented best practice in terms of involving young people in recruitment.
