Workforce: Study to examine youth work drift

The Children's Workforce Network, which includes youth work sector skills council Lifelong Learning UK, has commissioned Sheffield Hallam University to identify movements in the children and young people's workforce. Researchers will also examine the career aspirations of workers.

Research into the recruitment, retention and rewards in the children's workforce, published recently by the Children's Workforce Development Council, indicates a drift from youth services to other providers. It also suggests that vacancy rates in Connexions are less than half those within youth services.

Hilary Ellam, the council's national development manager for integrated working, said the study would help establish the extent of these trends. The final report is due next June.
