The Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) is developing the Youth Workforce Third Sector Capacity Building Programme with the aim of creating common structures, systems, policies and procedures for voluntary sector youth workers.
The programme will try to prepare leaders of small voluntary youth groups for carrying out work commissioned by local authorities and help managers in larger organisations train alongside statutory youth services.
The programme is part of the reforms laid out in the government's 10-year youth strategy, Aiming Higher for Young People, and may include proposals from the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services (NCVYS) for a voluntary workforce accreditation scheme. If the CWDC backs the scheme, voluntary sector youth workers could take accredited training and earn rewards for their achievements, such as discounts on local services.
