Workforce development: Children's workforce council unveils plans to focus on disabled young

1 min read

The Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) will carry out a review of training and development materials available to youth workers and look at filling any gaps, as well as communicating its findings to the workforce.

Deirdre Quill, director of delivery at CWDC, said: "It's hard for Connexions personal advisers and learning mentors who come across young people with special needs to know what to do."

Other elements of the business plan include the development of a strategy for the CWDC youth workforce, informed by consultation with Connexions advisers, education welfare officers and learning mentors.

Quill said the council would continue to work closely with Lifelong Learning UK, the sector skills council for youth workers: "We've put a lot of time and effort into learning mentors and we are now keen to look at all youth workers that fall under our remit and work with them to find out how they can be part of a world- class children's workforce."
