Jane Haywood, chief executive of the Children's Workforce Development Council, told Young People Now: "We need common core compliance and part of that is listening to young people."
Haywood plans to work with other sector skills councils over the next few months through the Children's Workforce Network, so that common standards can be developed across professions.
The council will also employ a participation worker from early next year as the first step towards involving young people in workforce development.
The worker's six-month secondment teaches young people the techniques of interviewing staff and helps the organisation's staff involve young people.
The council has also called on young people in Leeds to submit art portraying a perfect young people's worker. Haywood intends to display the best entries. www.cwdcouncil.org.uk.
