Jenny Willmott, head of membership development at NCVYS, told delegates at Young People Now's Children's Trusts for Young People conference last week that a review was needed of the current system, which divides Connexions staff and youth workers across different sector skills councils.
Connexions is represented in the Children's Workforce Development Council while other youth work is included in Lifelong Learning UK, the council for further and higher education and work-based learning. Both were formed this year.
"We should keep the issue open," said Susanne Rauprich, NCVYS chief executive. "Youth work risks being sidelined by the fact that it is in a separate sector skills council to Connexions."
