Workforce Development: Young to have say on qualifications

Jane Haywood, chief executive of the Children's Workforce Development Council, said that she was looking for young secondees to help the council build the participation of young people into its work programme.

"What I would like to see as we revise National Occupational Standards and look at qualifications is that we build in the participation of children and young people first of all," she said.

"That will be a real task, because the world of qualifications is a bit of an anorak's world and gets really detailed in terms of performance indicators."

Haywood added that any work funded by the council would have youth participation "embedded". She said: "We need to get a set of standards that supports participation."
