The Play England Council, previously known as the Children's Play Council, has elected Sandra Melville, former council chair and retired Playlink director, as the council's independent chair for a one-year term.

 

Jo Davidson, director of children's services at Gloucestershire County Council, will lead the government's review of child and adolescent mental health services, which was announced in the Children's Plan. She also chaired the Department for Children, Schools and Families' 0-7 Children's Plan group.

Sean Larkins is leaving his post as director of communication at the Youth Justice Board to join Opinion Leader Research as its first director of strategy. In his new role he will help to extend its offering in a number of areas including education, children and families.

Keith Towler, programme director for Save the Children in Wales, is the new children's commissioner for Wales, replacing the late Peter Clarke. Towler has worked on policy, advocacy and research and is also chair of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child Monitoring Group for Wales.

Zoe Margolis has been appointed as an ambassador for young people's sexual health charity Brook. Margolis is a writer whose award-winning weblog, Girl With a One Track Mind, has had almost five million readers. She will help Brook to raise awareness of the importance of sexual health in relationships.
