Local area agreements
Where you might hear it: From anyone who works in local or central government, or one of their partner agencies.
What does it mean: Local area agreements (LAAs) are contracts made between local authorities and central government, which are to become statutory from 2008 onwards. They set improvement targets and cover the delivery of children and young people's services. The agreements aim to provide solutions to local issues, while also contributing to national objectives. They were created to set clear goals, reduce bureaucracy and put an end to unnecessary ringfencing of funding.
How to use it: Check out the Department for Children, Schools and Families guidance on how LAAs will be changing in April 2008. Investigate how LAA targets affect the way you work.
