TAC (Team around the child)

Where you might hear it: In a wide variety of settings, from people working with children and young people in any capacity.

What does it mean: Although the phrase TAC conjures up the image of a multi-disciplinary team, it actually refers to a model of service provision rather than a group of professionals. Ideally, children with individual needs should have their own TAC, consisting of different practitioners who work independently of one another but are all relevant to that particular child's requirements. The TAC model was created to help local authorities meet the targets set under the Every Child Matters green paper.
