SPECIAL MEASURES
Where you might hear it: From anyone who works in education. What does it mean: A school is categorised as being in special measures when Ofsted inspectors assess it and consider it to be failing to provide students with the necessary minimum standard of education. Once a school is placed in special measures it has to commit to an action plan, which contains targets that have to be achieved. If the school fails to meet these, it can be closed. Schools placed in special measures are monitored closely to ensure they continue to develop and improve.
How to use it: Find out which schools in your area have been placed in special measures by using the Ofsted website. Establish how the schools are improving their services for pupils.
