- Is this a response to the Treasury document Aiming High for Young People?
Actually it's an outcome of long-term partnership working to encourage more libraries to consider and improve the way they respond to young people. But yes, it is geared to fit in with Aiming High, the 10-year strategy for positive activities for young people, and that reflects a desire to make senior library managers aware of wider policy. Libraries have had their share of lottery funds and this has encouraged reflection on how they can develop their role as genuine community centres.
- Who's behind it then?
The National Youth Libraries Board is chaired by the Museums, Libraries and Archive Council, managed by The Reading Agency and includes interested parties from government departments, library sector bodies such as The Modern Libraries Association, as well as The National Youth Agency.
