Work Wise: Crib sheet - It's time to talk about children

The government is consulting parents, teachers, children and professionals to shape its national Children's Plan.

Time to Talk ... sounds a bit familiar? Yes, Parentline Plus already uses the phrase as part of a campaign to encourage parents to talk to their children about sex. But this is the name of a government consultation.

What does the government want to talk about? Everything as it relates to children. Some of the questions are: what are the best experiences you've had of support for you and your family?; how can we keep children and young people out of trouble?; and what more could be done to keep you happy, healthy and safe?

And why this sudden chattiness? Well, the government is drawing up a children's plan that will outline its aims for the development of services for children and young people over the next decade, along the lines of the 10-year strategy for youth work, Aiming High for Young People, published earlier this year. It hopes its consultation, which involves events as well as an online questionnaire, will help it do so.
