The Government is consulting on the general duty of care for children, which was placed on services by the Children Act 2004.

How did the Government respond to the Victoria Climbie inquiry?

Social services, health and the police were required to undertake audits of local standards of child protection practice, and the reports of those audits have been published. But a number of the policy recommendations have also been addressed in the Every Child Matters programme and the Children Act 2004.

Like what? The new duty to co-operate that is meant to lead to integrated local children's services through children's trusts, national outcomes for children and young people, the development of a common assessment tool, and information sharing databases, and the creation of statutory safeguarding boards.
