How different is the new working together guidance from the old working together guidance? Oh dear - you would ask me that.
It's a straightforward question. But it's a long document that's expanded two-fold since the last version in 1999. However, guidance on safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children does require careful and accurate drafting.
To what services does it apply? Obviously, the Section 11 Children Act 2004 partners are represented, but the guidance also refers to the safeguarding role played by others such as the voluntary sector, housing, immigration services, the National Asylum Support Service, and the armed forces. The guidance is legally binding on social services, but it also provides a "standard of good practice" for other agencies. It also defines "safeguarding" and "child protection".
