Wales: Training sector to gain a new voice

The Welsh Training Agencies Group had its first meeting recently, attended by representatives of the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education (Newi), the University of Wales Institute Cardiff, the University of Wales Newport, and Trinity College Carmarthen.

The group aims to make sure that youth work training in Wales continues to have an independent voice. Hamish Murphy, principal lecturer, youth and community, at Newi, said: "With the agency going the way it is going there is a need for this kind of organisation."

One of the group's concerns is the future of the agency's Staff College.

Murphy said he understands that this will close when the agency closes, leaving a potential gap in training.
