Twenty-five young people in the Llanrumney area aged eight to 16 are to produce Just For You, a quarterly newsletter, for 5,000 households.
Andy Goode, NCH Cymru information worker, said: "One of our young reporters interviewed some elderly people to find out their views towards young people, which were largely negative. We set up a buddy scheme for young and old people to break down barriers."
A questionnaire is being sent out this month to gather the views of 300 young people and 300 old people on perceptions on both sides of the age gap.
"Some of the young people have made friends with old people in homes and found things in common," Goode said.
