The charity will work with Gwent Healthcare Trust, Torfaen Social Services, Local Education Authority and Local Health Board to manage tier 3 mental health services for young people, focusing on looked-after children and care-leavers up to the age of 18.
A team will be in place by the end of the year, with an annual budget of 465,000 from NCH Cymru, the Welsh Assembly's Children First programme and its Flexibilities grant scheme.
According to Peter Wilson at mental health charity YoungMinds, this is the first time a charity has taken over the management of area mental health service provision.
Andy Lusk, deputy director of children's services at NCH Cymru, said: "This partnership recognises that different players are driven by different statutory processes and, at present, the pieces do not connect."
