Vox pop - Is the recent Beatbullying advert too disturbing for TV?

Beatbullying's latest advertising campaign, depicting a girl sewing her mouth shut, has been banned by advertising regulators.

There have been lots of adverts by the likes of NSPCC and NCH on TV that have included imagery to make a point. This is a harrowing subject that you cannot pussyfoot around. Bullying is a hugely destructive aspect of society and it needs adverts like this to show that it is not just a bit of name-calling, it destroys lives. Also, there is the watershed, which would ensure it is shown at an appropriate time.

It was using some very unpleasant imagery that has generated a massive PR storm. A major concern is the effect it could have on the very many victims of bullying who self-harm. There are websites that promote self-harm already and what we do not want to see is an advert like this that puts forward new ways of self-harming involving a needle and thread.
