Training: Childcare school a first for Scotland

Scotland's first childcare academy is to launch in August.

The Edinburgh-based initiative, run by North Edinburgh Childcare Training Services, is part of the council's drive to recruit new carers and to get unemployed people back into work.

Students will gain basic care qualifications before embarking on 11 months of on-the-job training in pre-school and after-school settings, as they work towards the Scottish Progression Award for Children's Care and Play.

Training co-ordinator Barbara Webster said: "We want it to be a rolling programme and to offer further training qualifications."
